Help me Choose a Cover
I’ve got several options for the cover of my new book, so please help me to decide! 🙂
Blurb of the story is:
Dylan Sinclair wants a future in music, but he feels held back by being in a wheelchair. In a moment of desperation he hatches a plan to have his brother, who can’t sing at all, impersonate him.
Record executives are happy to go along with the charade and David’s career quickly takes off. Dylan must watch and keep quiet, never getting any acknowledgement for his work.
When a beautiful reporter starts writing a biography of David, it becomes too much for Dylan and he determines to prove to her that he is the talent behind the famous voice of David Sinclair.
Here are the options:
D
E –Â Based on the comments, I’ve changed this option

Can’t wait to read this one Ruth!
Thanks! I’m excited to be sharing it in a couple of months 🙂
The problem with three of the covers is the odd, large semi-opaque gray band that highlights the title and author. The silhouette and blue background would be fine with a better placement style for the text.
Hahaha. I liked that! I saw it in a number of covers that I liked, so tried to imitate it. Those are the covers that I made myself, not the one from my artist. lol.
I absolutely love cover “B.” That is the best one with him crowd surfing in his chair! I can’t wait for this one, Ruth!
xoxo
Melissa =)
Yay! 🙂
I like option C the best. It is the most simple and also the most powerful. There seems to be something wrong with the dimensions in option B. He is much bigger than the audience.
Ruth, I take it you were inspired by Personal Rockstar?
Actually, no. I’ve had this story idea bouncing around for almost a year now and the description has been on my “coming soon” section! lol. Personal Rockstar had nothing at all to do with it!
Ah, I know that video inspired me – in many ways 🙂
I actually also like option E – the one without the grey area.
I like D because it shows his face. Although a large image of him in wheel chair would be good and smaller red letters.
I didn’t like B for two reasons. It gives away the ending. The real photo suggests biography. First glance gut reacts.
Thanks for the input. I’m hoping that having the wheelchair mentioned in the blurb will be enough! I told my artist not to worry about showing the disability, but I don’t know if that’s the right move or not.
I agree, option B gives away too much. We get to see that Dylan Sinclair is being acknowledged for his singing voice.
I like the simpler covers a lot better, they are much stronger graphically.
I agree, but it seems like cover B is far and away the most popular!
While it’s good to get input, I think you should go with your gut, ultimately. That said, I like D the best. It’s simple and doesn’t give it away. B is my second choice, but only because I like the feeling of power the image portrays. I do think it gives too much away, if your story has a happy ending… 🙂
True, true! It’s quite insightful to get the different opinions, though. My instincts are not always (or usually) correct. lol.
A-Z is kicking my tail, and I want to read Stewart’s story, but don’t have time for 30 pages right now.
So excited for you & another new book. (Now going to cast my Sooper Sekrit ballot.)
😀 I’m enjoying the A-Z. I’m glad you decided to do it! I’d love to hear your opinion on Stewart’s Story, though, so hopefully in the future you’ll get a chance to check it out. I think it’s very indicative of my work: a really good example of what I do!
