Sorry, no Friday post!

I fell of the wagon with the Romantic Friday Writers posts!  I’m working on a story that will have a scene that could work well for the lunch date theme, too.  I was trying to get it done last night, but I just didn’t get enough into it to provide a good sample.  I knew going into this that I wasn’t going to be able to have an offering every Friday, but now that I’ve done four or five in a row, I really feel like I’m letting you down.  So, I apologize.  Know that the reason I don’t have anything today is that I’m working in every spare moment to write new books for your...

Design a Book Cover

Design a Book Cover

I am participating in a fun cover designing contest at A Writer’s Journey Go on over and take a look at all the fun covers and vote starting August 31st and ending September 7th. Back in the old days I had ClarisWorks on my Mac computer and I would spend hours manipulating clip art pictures, painstakingly cutting and moving and creating.  As I’ve become more and more fixated on writing, I’ve been forgetting how much fun working with images can be.  Recently I downloaded Gimp and I’ve been teaching myself how to use it.  I’m learning to use stock images and manipulating things on Picnic through Flickr.  I’ve also been learning to make videos.  So much fun!  I love using various media to put out a message of some kind. This is a...

What do you look for in love?

What do you look for in love?

When you think of your current partner or your ideal future partner, what factors matter the most to you?  How has it changed over time? When I think about the man that I hope to meet someday, there are a few things I already expect from him.  The qualities of being slow-to-anger, patient, and compassionate are very important.  Physical appearance matters to some extent.  A passion and drive in life is important. I base this ideal-man on previous experiences dating, on books and movies, on the ideas that I got as a child. Yet, I am aware of the Guys and Dolls problem.  Sarah Brown thinks she knows exactly what her future husband will look like and act like and be like.  She can list it in tremendous detail.  Then life gets in the way and she falls in love with...

Your Favorite Hero

Your Favorite Hero

What kind of hero do you like to read about?  Forget real life and the kind of guy you married or hope to marry.  In your wildest fantasies, in the most satisfying romance novels, who is your favorite?   Do you like a dark and brooding man with a mysterious past?  Should he be quiet and reserved, not giving much away until the heroine draws him out? Do you prefer a man who is sweet, self-deprecating, self-conscious and utterly unaware of his own charm? Should he be perfect in every way or wounded by his past? Young and innocent or bitter and jaded? Tell me, who do you love best?   [Image...

Romantic Friday Writers: Confused

Romantic Friday Writers: Confused

http://fridaynightwriters.blogspot.com/ This blog has a challenge for writers of romance/love stories to write 400 words on a theme each Friday.  The theme this week is Confused. So many opportunities for confusion and misunderstanding in love stories!  I selected a scene from my already-published novel (W)hole.  I would have kept going, if only the next part was the sexy scene that it seems like it’s leading to.  However, at this point the phone rings, and the scene goes in a very different direction! It has been really enlightening for me to be part of this group, as it’s making me realize that I don’t have enough romance in my romance stories!  I’ll have to start working on fixing that. Word Count: 302 NCCO, since this is already...

At Least I’m Better Than Him

At Least I’m Better Than Him

It seems we all do it. We’re taught to by our parents, by our community.  We’re taught that being grateful means putting down someone else. Think about it.  When you start feeling down about something in your life, what do people tell you?  At least you’re not as bad off as so-and-so, he has a terrible life, be happy you aren’t fill-in-the-blank.  And then you start to do it yourself.  You think, I must be grateful and happy that at least I’m not an amputee.  At least I’m not a quadriplegic.  At least I don’t have a progressive neurological condition.  At least I’m not job-less.  At least I’m not bald.  At least I’m not like that person over there. Comparing ourselves to others is always a mistake. We...
