Friday Excerpt: Faith Gets Bad News

Here are 400 words (actually a little less) from my NaNoWriMo book. Remember it isn’t polished or edited at all! This is rough, rough draft. lol. (but still feel free to offer critique)

Old lady Smythe was looking at her again. Faith found the old woman creepy. She had a small smile on her face all the time and a gleam in her eyes that suggested she knew everything about everyone. Faith tried to avoid her, not wanting her own secrets sussed out, but it seemed like the old woman was always hanging around her. She must have a nose for trouble and knew even before Faith herself did that Faith was destined for trouble. Faith was laying on her bunk and staring blankly at the white floor while she thought. She was reminising about the last time she and Reece had made love and how amazing it was to feel their bodies connecting so close that they merged. Smythe came by and stopped at Faith’s bunk.
“Oh Faith,” the old woman sighed. She looked disappointed. Faith looked up at her, steeled her expression and said, “What?”
“You’ve been doing things you shouldn’t,” Smythe said.
Faith instructed herself to stay calm and steady, not to give anything away on her face.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she said and turned away to stare at the wall.
The old woman leaned in close and her rotten breath made Faith shiver. “You’re going to have a baby,” Smythe whispered. Faith spun back around and stared at the triumpant old woman. “No,” Faith said, “You’re wrong.”
“I’m never wrong.”
Instinctively Faith’s hands touched her stomach. Could it be true? She already knew that it was. It explained the odd feelings that Faith had been experiencing. How could she have let this happen?
