Monday Book Review: They Call Me Sunshine
I’m not even going to provide a buy link to this book. No one should buy it. Ever. This is the worst that self-publishing has to offer. I know the company this author published with and they likely charged her a lot of money to slap her book up on the web. And if she were smart, she’d take it down and learn to write in a way that isn’t highly offensive. The subtitle of this book is “Inside the mind of a quadriplegic” yet it seems very clear to me that this woman has never met a quadriplegic. She knows nothing about it. Her descriptions of it are unrealistic to the point of absurdity. This character is supposedly not able to speak at all and yet he also isn’t on a ventilator.  I’m getting ahead of myself, though. Let me...
Read MoreFriday Excerpt: Actually, whole story
I thought I’d keep myself accountable by adding updates on what writing I’ve accomplished during the week when I do my excerpt! So, what have I been working on? Well, my debut novel (W)hole and its sequel Breath(e) are being re-released with professional proofing and new covers in October and I’m adding new material to (W)hole, so it will be a second edition. I need to get the new stuff done so I can get it to my proofreader for it to be out on time for October 10th! I’m also editing last year’s National Novel Writing Month novel, which I think you guys are going to really love. I call it science-fiction, but it’s actually very light sci-fi, just parallel universes. And so it has some very large obstacles keeping the lovers...
Read MoreDownton Abbey
After hearing so much about this show, I looked it up on Netflix streaming and watched the first episode. I was amazed by how quickly I was sucked into the show. The stories are so interesting and there are tons of characters who each have their own needs and desires. Even my boyfriend couldn’t resist the intrigue. One of the characters is the new valet for the lord of the estate and he walks with a cane. The character was excellently done. His name is Bates and from the moment he arrives, nearly everyone is wondering whether he can really do this job or not. He tries to assure people he can, but there continues to be uncertainty about his abilities. A few episodes in he tries to get a brace that is supposed to correct his limp, but it digs screws into his...

Shot in the Dark: A Killian McBride Novel (Volume 1) by A. N. Drea Review… Summary: Katie Black is holding down the ranch all by herself. Her brother has died owing quite a lot of money in gambling debts and her father is losing a battle with dementia. It’s the wild, lawless west and Katie is trying to hold her own against a band of cruel outlaws led by a man known as The Shepard. Then she meets Killian McBride, a very mysterious stranger. Though he is blind, he has an almost mystical ability to go into an “overdrive” state and kill efficiently and effectively. When Katie hires him to help her defend her ranch, neither of them realizes that The Sheppard intended for Killian to show up here. The Sheppard has been waiting for him and he has...
Read MoreMonday Book Review: A Marriage to Fight For
Marriage To Fight For by Raina Lynn Review… Summary: The hero and heroine (Garrett and Maggie) had been married before and they are each other’s only loves. But his work as a police officer, going undercover frequently, was too much for her to take. She divorced him, but remained close with his family. Then Garrett is in a plane crash and seriously injured (resulting in paraplegia). He had been on his way back to tell Maggie that he wants to get remarried. The extent of his injuries put a complication in that plan. The Good: With the cheesy cover and description, I was surprised by how much I liked this book. I’ll admit I actually don’t have very high standards for standard romance novels. I usually don’t like them much, finding them...
